Creating a More Inclusive Work Environment for Everyone

Suzanne Wheeler (She/Her) is an LGBTQ+ and Veterans Advocate. Suzanne holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Special Education and master’s degree in Strategic Studies and Public Policy. She is a graduate of U.S. Command and General Staff College and the United States Army War College Georgetown Fellowship program. Suzanne is a retired Army Colonel and combat veteran who spent the last two years of her career serving as an out transgender woman. She became an integral member of team which facilitated the lifting of the ban on transgender military service.
In her role as the Executive Director of the Mid-America LGBT Chamber she works to advocate, promote, and facilitate the success of the LGBTQ+ business community and its allies to create a more inclusive, diverse, and vibrant business environment. The Kansas City Metro has always been Suzanne’s home even when she was stationed thousands of miles away. She serves on the Visit KC DEI Committee, Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City Diversity Board, InnovateHER Board, Heartland Men’s Chorus Board, KC Cares Capitol Campaign, and Advent Health’s Health Equity Committee.
Suzanne lives in Mission Kansas with her fiancé, Marsha Riley. Marsha and she are the proud parents of eight children, and seven grandchildren. Her passions are camping, fly fishing, and anything to do with Jeeps.
